Xialaowan Waterfall is a small waterfall in Hualian, Yuli Township. (中文版:下勞灣瀑布) It's located far up Xialaowan river, close to it's water source. The forest road which leads to the trailhead is steep and in poor condition. Motorcycles or high-chassis cars are necessary, and 4WD is recommended. From the road though, it only takes about 20 minutes to reach Xialaowan Waterfall. Below the waterfall is a large pool with areas to jump from on the left side. This pool was formed by a landslide in 2016-17 and used to be over 200 meters low before water washed the naturally formed dam away. When visited in August 2020, the pool was about 30 meters long and 3 meters deep at it's deepest. The landslide which formed the lake is ongoing, and it may return after future typhoon seasons, although due to the loose soil, it's unlikely to remain for long. Immediately above the pool there are an additional two waterfalls the fork on the right side.
