Wangwang Waterfall (中文版：嗡嗡瀑布) is a tall waterfall in Taitung County, Chenggong Township. Although the hike is only 1.8km, due to the elevation gain and amount of climbing over boulders required, it still takes about 3-4 hours to go and come back. Along the route there are several places that are good for swimming and jumping into the water, and the river is rich with fish and wildlife.
During the early spring this waterfall may dry up. The best time to visit is in the summer or fall, when water levels are higher. The road goes all the way to the river bed, and it's possible to park or camp right next to the river, and start the trace up from there.
Although it’s only 1.8km, last 400 meters of this trail is very steep. There are large boulders in the river, and it’s not always intuitive how to get around them. In some cases you will need to go into the forest to get around the rocks. Plan for extra time if you do not have a lot of experience climbing on rocks or hiking without a trail.
Wangwang Waterfall is up the 2nd right fork of the river, but continuing up the main river will also likely lead to more waterfalls. If anyone further explores the main river, please post your photos in the comment section below.
