Jinfeng Hotspring (中文版: 金峰溫泉) is an amazing riverside wild hot spring in Taitung, Jinfeng Township. From the parking area to the hot spring is an easy five minute walk.
The built up area around Jinfeng Hot Spring was destroyed during typhoon Marakot in 2008, but the hot spring remains. The water boils out of the ground at 142 degrees centigrade, so be careful around the hot spring outcrop. The spring creates a hot river, which flows into a series of pools, cooling off in a range of temperatures along the way.
If you arrive at the road leading to the hot spring before 3PM, the gate will automatically open and let you in. Later than that and it will remain closed and visitors will be asked to leave at 5PM. This is to prevent camping and staying overnight, ostensibly because of an ongoing landslide. Days hot enough to soak in the pool may be passed us, but it's still a wonder of nature and impressive to see. These new rules also apply to Jinfeng Waterfall, which is in a park one hundred meters passed the hot spring.
