Thousand Stones Waterfall (中文版: 千層岩瀑布) is a natural waterslide in Tainan, Nanhua District. Here the river opens up into a wide and gently sloped waterfall. The riverbed here is composed of soft mudstone, and through the ages the water has cut many pools and lines through the rock. These soft sedimentary rocks, which are found in most of Tainan, are generally less slippery than the hard metamorphic rocks in Kaohsiung and Pingtung, which makes walking in the riverbed easier.
Offload cars and motorcycles can drive all the way to the waterfall, but there is only room for a few cars to park at the end, and there are only a few places to pass cars along the way. If you park along the main road and hike from there, it's only a 10 minute walk to the waterfall.
Ten minutes upstream from Thousand Stones Waterfall is Youqing Waterfall. This waterfall is in a small sandstone canyon, and the pool in front of it is very deep. The pool guess deep immediately, without any shallow areas, so please be careful around the mouth of the canyon.
Thousand Stones Waterfall is a seasonal waterfall, and will typically be dry from January until the Plum Rains.
