Erzishan Hot Spring (中文版:二子山溫泉) is a very active hot spring in Hualien, Xiulin Township. The water is very hot, and flows out from under the rocks to form a warm river, with many pools of various temperatures to soak in.

Getting to the hot spring is a 12-km long hike up the river, which takes about 5 hours.  Most people camp at the hot spring, but it’s also possible as a ~9 hour round trip hike.

Erzishan River has a large basin and accumulates a lot of water during heavy rains.  This can cause the water level to rise which may make it difficult to cross the river in some places.  For this reason the most suitable time to visit the hot spring is typically toward the end of the hot spring season, in February, March, and April.  Every year is different though, be sure to check the weather forecasts before hiking in.

The upper part of the river is too rocky for boats, but the bottom 5km is very suitable for tubing.
