Jinfeng Hotspring

Jinfeng Hotspring (中文版: 金峰溫泉) is an amazing riverside wild hot spring in Taitung, Jinfeng Township (臺東縣金峰鄉) near the Taimali Train Station. You can drive all the way to it, there is no hiking required (unless the road is blocked).

The built up area around Jinfeng Hot Spring was destroyed during typhoon Marakot in 2008, but the hot spring remains. The water boils out of the ground at 142 degrees centigrade, so be careful around the hot spring outcrop. The spring creates a hot river, which flows into a series of pools, cooling off in a range of temperatures along the way.

Much farther up the river are Bilu Hot Springs (比魯溫泉). Those hot springs are in a protected area, so the park service may block the road to Jinfeng Hot Spring on holidays. Just explain the them that you are not going to Bilu Hot Springs and they should let you though. You can tell them that you're going to Jinfeng Waterfall (金峰瀑布) instead. If they still don't let you drive though, you can hike up the river, 1.5km, on foot from the opposite side of the green bridge.
