XiaoBanTian Waterfall

XiaoBanTian Waterall (中文版: 小半天瀑布) is a giant waterfall with a big swimming pool and a low jumping spot in front of it. It's a 20 minute easy walk from the parking area, but the last 5 minutes are through grass so wear decent shoes. The path is easy to follow, but the road to the parking area is a little confusing. Google didn't do a very good job mapping this area, so you may have to ignore your G{S (use my map) and follow the signs (although some of the signs are confusing too. Use my map).

As confusing as the road is, it's even more beautiful. The drive to XiaoBanTian waterfall took a long time because I kept having to stop and take photos. There is so much bamboo everywhere. It looks awesome. When you get near the waterfall it turns into fir trees with tea growing between them, and then back into bamboo. It's pretty distracting on a misty morning. Keep your eyes open, if you're lucky you just might see a wild panda bear.

Once you get down near the river the path splits. Right takes you through the grass towards to waterfall. The water is deep and great for swimming.

Left takes you to the river. Just above where the path comes out into the river, there is a slick slab of rock that you can slide down if the water is high enough. The water is shallow there, so it's a good place for the non-swimmers to splash around. From there you can also go explore downriver (and up the stream coming in from the west). I am sure there are many more waterfalls in this area, but I didn't have time to check it out when I was there. I would love to go back and look around more. The river looked ripe with opportunity.
